Crab Island is one of Destin’s most iconic experiences — crystal-clear shallow water, floating vendors, and a laid-back sandbar vibe you can only reach by boat. Packing the right items can make the difference between an okay day and a truly unforgettable one.
Here’s exactly what you should bring for a perfect day at Crab Island — plus a few tips most first-timers don’t realize until they’re already out there.

The Absolute Must-Haves
🏖 Towels
Crab Island is all about swimming, floating, and hopping in and out of the water. Bring at least one towel per person — quick-dry towels are a bonus.
☀️ Sunscreen (reef-safe recommended)
The Florida sun is no joke, especially when you’re surrounded by reflective water. Apply before boarding and reapply throughout the day.
👙 Swimsuits
Wear your swimsuit onto the boat, and consider bringing an extra set of clothes if you plan to head to the Harbor after your trip.
🧢 Hats & Sun Protection
Wide-brim hats, baseball caps, and sunglasses will go a long way in keeping you comfortable on the water.

Drinks & Alcohol
🧊 Cooler with Ice & Water
Staying hydrated is key — especially in warm months.Good to know: many Crab Island charters (including ours) already include a cooler, ice, and water, so you don’t have to lug one from your car.
🍹 Alcohol (21+ Only)
Crab Island does not sell alcohol — it’s strictly BYOB.If you plan to drink, be sure to bring what you want with you.
Tip: Balance alcohol with water and electrolytes to avoid dehydration.

🥪 Food & Snacks
Floating food vendors are often available, but availability can vary. Bringing snacks or lunch ensures you won’t go hungry.
Our private charters also offer boxed lunches or charcuterie boards as add-ons, which is a great hands-free option for groups, bachelorettes, and families.
Footwear & Clothing
🩴 Flip Flops or Water Sandals
Crab Island is sandy, shallow, and easy to walk around — water-friendly footwear makes things more comfortable.
👗 Swimsuit Cover-Ups
Perfect for heading to the Harbor before or after your trip, or just for sun protection on the boat.
We suggest wearing sun protection shirts that are quick drying to stay protected from getting burnt!
Fun Extras That Make Crab Island Better
🔊 Bluetooth Speaker
Music sets the vibe! Our pontoon boats already come equipped with Bluetooth speakers, so you can connect and play your favorite playlist without bringing your own.
💳 Card & Cash
Bring both:
Cash for floating vendors and tips
Card as backup for Harbor stops before or after your trip
🪪 Government-Issued ID
If you plan to grab drinks at a Harbor bar before boarding or after returning, you’ll need a valid ID.
Inflatables: What to Bring (and What Not To)
Inflatables are one of the best parts of Crab Island — but not all are created equal.

✅ Best Inflatables
Mats
Lounge floats
Small rafts that can be tied or anchored
❌ Avoid “Boat-Style” Inflatables
Large inflatable boats or novelty floats can drift away if the current picks up.
Pro tip: If you bring your own inflatables, make sure they can be tied off or anchored.
Our Crab Island boats already include perfectly sized inflatables designed to stay secure, and remain anchored throughout the trip for safety and convenience.
Don’t Forget These Small (But Important) Items
📱 At least one phone Many Destin parking lots use paid parking apps, so you’ll need a phone to check in.
🧃 Electrolyte drinksEspecially important if you’re drinking alcohol or spending hours in the sun.
Final Tip: Pack Smart, Float Happy
Crab Island is all about relaxing — and packing smart ensures you can focus on floating, swimming, and soaking up the emerald-green water instead of worrying about what you forgot.
If you’re booking a charter, always check what’s already included — it can save you time, money, and a lot of carrying.
